Educational Requirements

To qualify as a nurse in the USA, you must have completed:

  • A nursing degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of nursing education
  • Clinical training as part of your education
Your nursing education must be evaluated by the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS).

English Language Proficiency

You must demonstrate English language proficiency through one of these tests:

IELTS

  • Overall score: 6.5+
  • Speaking: 7.0+
  • Listening: 7.0+
  • Reading: 6.5+
  • Writing: 6.5+

TOEFL iBT

  • Overall score: 83+
  • Speaking: 26+
  • Listening: 22+
  • Reading: 21+
  • Writing: 24+

Licensure Requirements

To practice nursing in the USA, you must:

  • Pass the NCLEX-RN examination
  • Obtain state nursing license
  • Complete criminal background check
  • Verify previous nursing licenses

Experience Requirements

Most positions require:

  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience
  • Active nursing practice within the last 3 years
  • Specialty experience (if applying for specialized positions)

Immigration Requirements

To work in the USA, you will need:

  • Valid passport
